Entry from: Sapa, Vietnam Entry Title: "Valley riding in Sapa county" Entry: "Sapa is a beautiful hillside town, views the travel agents try and sell as "as good as Nepal", I can't speak for the efficacy of this statement but I can tell you the views are pretty special. I also think that maybe the travel agent went to a different part of Nepal than me. At an altitude of 1600 metres where the tallest peak around is just over 3000 metres it doesn't quite have grandeur of the Himalayan beast but does have its own sort of charm. I met up with Rob early the next morning, chasing him down the street on his bike when he rode past me having breakfast. We found a nice hotel, $7.50 each (a bit pricey for Vietnam, but worth it) with beautiful views down the valley, well what were supposed to be beautiful views down the valley but a month of consistent cloud and rain made the scenic vistas hard to come by. We took a stroll around town marvelling at how quiet the streets were considering this is one place in Vietnam almost everyone comes to visit. A little chat with a restaurant owner let us know that it's because tourist that have been here while it's raining tell everyone they meet and the prospects decide to spend an extra week on the beaches instead.
